Mothers Day in Poland falls on the 26th of May and is marked with special celebrations in schools and kindergartens.

Younger children prepare laurki for their mothers, a sheet of paper decorated with flowers on which children write their wishes to their mothers. The Polish mother is possibly the most powerful and characteristic Polish national archetype. Polish mothers have been greatly revered throughout history as the guardians of Polish national identity, educators, and protectors of future generations of Poles.
During the January Uprising, Polish mothers contributed their jewellery to the insurgents to boost their resources, Polish mothers taught their children the independence of thought that helped the Polish culture survive the Partitions of Poland by Russia, Prussia and Austria, the German invasion during WWII and the communist propaganda of 1945-1989, when Polish language was banned, they taught it to the next generation.
Without mothers and their silent battle, there would be no independent Poland.
